Recycling of water and waste within the framework of green urban infrastructure

Smart City can be done small or optimizing blue-green infrastructure.

The project responds to the need of smaller towns and municipalities to comprehensively address water management and improve the quality of life in accordance with Smart City and circular economy principles in municipalities with a population of up to 10,000. The benefits of the project will be better management of resources, energy and some waste. In particular, the recycling or energy recovery of treated wastewater and rainwater and grey water will be optimised. Furthermore, the material recovery methods of sewage sludge and construction recyclates will be improved and the possibilities for their use in green roof substrates or other elements of urban green infrastructure will be explored.

The duration of the project was extended in December 2020 until the end of 2022, and the project has been extended to include 3 new deliverables.

  • Validated technology - the production process of processing sewage sludge into a solid carbonaceous product (biochar) by means of thermal treatment or microwave depolymerisation will be validated.
